MILWAUKEE, WI USA
Mortara Instrument announced its groundbreaking on a $5 million expansion project at its Milwaukee, Wisconsin headquarters. The Company, founded in 1982 by Dr. David W. Mortara, has been located in Milwaukee since its inception.
Mortara Instrument develops and manufactures electrocardiograph systems including resting ECG, cardiac stress exercise and Holter monitoring systems. Mortara competes directly with multiple companies with offerings in diagnostic cardiology including General Electric and Philips. Growing rapidly since 2001, Mortara has achieved double digit organic growth, driving the need for its expansion of both manufacturing and other facilities. Growth has been achieved through innovative new product development and rapid expansion in global markets. Today Mortara Instrument employs nearly 200 personnel worldwide, with both R&D and manufacturing based in Milwaukee.
Dr. David W. Mortara, President, commented, “We celebrate this groundbreaking acknowledging the critical contributions of our employees that have enabled this growth and the important support from the City of Milwaukee in our expansion project. With this expansion, we will nearly double our existing manufacturing space, provide expanded customer service and product marketing areas as well as significantly expand our R&D footprint. We will be well equipped to continue our steady growth for the years to come as we continue to innovate and lead in our cardiology device segment.”
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett stated, “Mortara Instrument is a world leader in medical technology and we welcome their choice to grow in Milwaukee . The company's expansion will not only boost the health care sector of our regional economy--I believe it demonstrates that Milwaukee is an advantageous place to locate a headquarters."
As part of its expansion, Mortara Instrument will also purchase an adjacent parcel of land located next to its existing site. This acquisition will enable the company further expansion capacity in the future, as needed in the years to come. David Mortara remarked, “Despite regular cries from some members of the business community regarding how inadequately Milwaukee or the State of Wisconsin support local business, I believe that this is right home for Mortara and the right place to be doing business as a technology leader in medical devices.”
