Mortara Instrument to Support C.A.R.E. Foundation’s ECG Screenings at HeartStrong High Expo

March 29, 2010

Event to be held Saturday, April 17, at Lambeau Field Atrium, Green Bay, WI

Milwaukee, WI, March 29, 2010 - Mortara Instrument continues its support of the Cardiac Arrhythmias Research and Education (C.A.R.E.) Foundation by providing electrocardiographs and support staff for free ECG screenings of high school students attending the HeartStrong high school expo on Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lambeau Field Atrium.  The day will include free activities and health information for students and their families.

It is estimated that as many as 10,000 young people die each year due to previously undiagnosed heart disorders, including heart muscle abnormalities such as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and electrical conduction abnormalities such as Long QT Syndrome (LQTS).  Many heart disorders may or may not exhibit prior symptoms; however, with early detection, they can be treated safely and effectively.  A simple ECG screening can help determine your risk of certain heart disorders.

“We are proud to support the C.A.R.E. Foundation in its mission to increase awareness of the risk of sudden cardiac death due to acquired and heritable heart rhythm disorders,” stated Dr. Justin L. Mortara, CEO of Mortara Instrument. “Our provision of ECG equipment and expert staff enables a simple screening test to be performed and, by extension, increase awareness of heart diseases.”

Screenings will be available throughout the day during HeartStrong High on a first come, first served basis in 10-15 minute increments.  Please allow additional time for wait periods and to view education and interactive displays.
