eResearchTechnology (eRT) and Mortara Instrument Announce Completion of a new Digital Electrocardiogram Process Mortara Instrument's new 12XML module and eRTs EXPeRT Data Management System Facilitate Compliance with new Proposed FDA Standard for Assessing Cardiac Safety of New Drugs MILWAUKEE, WI, PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA 21 November 2001 Mortara Instrument and eResearchTechnology (eRT) (NASDAQ:ERES) announced today a digital ECG solution that facilitates compliance with the new proposed FDA standard for providing digital ECG data to define cardiac safety of new drugs. The digital ECG solution, is based on the interaction between eRTs digital processing system, EXPeRT and Mortara's E-Scribe/NT ECG System, which incorporates a new module,12XML, designed specifically to support the collection of digital ECG data for clinical trials. With the 12XML module, the EXPeRT and E-Scribe/NT systems provide a complete solution available for digital ECG acquisition, transmission and export functionality according to the new proposed FDA standard. Justin L. Mortara, Ph.D., Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mortara Instrument commented, "The collaboration between eResearchTechnology and Mortara is an example of two leaders in their respective fields demonstrating the ability to quickly identify and implement solutions. eRT identified what was needed from an ECG device manufacturer and Mortara responded by quickly implementing the necessary customization to meet those requirements." Mortara added, "Mortara Instrument has a strong history of providing customized ECG solutions to medical device companies worldwide on an OEM basis." Jeffrey Litwin, M.D. Sr. Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of eRT noted, "With the Mortara system ECG data can be digitally obtained at the clinical site where drugs are evaluated for safety and then transmitted to a centralized digital ECG laboratory like eRT. eRT will provide the analyzed data in the FDA format to sponsors who will provide this data as part of formal submissions to the FDA to obtain marketing approval for their new drugs. Utilizing Mortara's superior ECG technology and working with them to implement the proposed FDA standard will allow eRT to support Sponsors with all the ECG data services they will require. This capability, coupled with eRTs new reporting tool, the ECG Digital Community, places us in an excellent position to deliver unique services to our clients." David W.
