Welch Allyn and Mortara Instrument Announce Licensing Agreement

Welch Allyn adds world class VERITAS ECG analysis technology to its innovative Acuity™ Central Monitoring Station.

MILWAUKEE, WI, USA

19 December 2002

Welch Allyn Monitoring and Mortara Instrument today announced they have signed a licensing agreement that provides Welch Allyn Monitoring with access to Mortara Instrument’s VERITAS cardiology technology for its Flexible Monitoring care products.

"Welch Allyn Monitoring is fully committed to providing an innovative line of reliable, state-of-the-art patient monitoring solutions for today’s healthcare environment,” commented Rick Davis, vice president of marketing for Welch Allyn Monitoring. “The inclusion of Mortara’s world-class cardiac Arrhythmia recognition capability, along with soon-to-be released enhanced tools, will enable us to become an even stronger player in the cardiac arena. The recent introduction of the Micropaq patient wearable monitor has made tremendous inroads into the cardiac telemetry market.”

The licensing agreement allows for the integration of Mortara's VERITAS ECG signal processing algorithms into Welch Allyn Monitoring’s Acuity Central Monitoring Station. Both Mortara’s Arrhythmia Analysis algorithm and ST Analysis algorithm will be included in the new software release.

The Acuity Central Monitoring Station offers the centralization of essential vital sign parameters such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry and capnography on one system. The system displays a “blueprint” or map of each floor and care unit, indicating every monitored patient’s location
with colored icons. The software records every beat of patient data for 96 hours, allowing
for easy record keeping.

“Through 20 years of continuous investment in ECG technology, Mortara Instrument has created a wide array of leading ECG technology components, both hardware and software, that are provided on an OEM basis to numerous companies,” noted Justin L. Mortara, Ph.D., vice president of sales and marketing for Mortara Instrument. “Welch Allyn Monitoring’s market leadership extending ECG monitoring to non-traditional areas outside of the ICU will ensure that our cardiology expertise reaches more care areas to positively impact a greater number of lives.”
Welch Allyn Monitoring expects to begin shipments of the Acuity Central Monitoring System with version 5.40 software immediately.
