Resting ECG Interpretation Algorithm Performance Analysis

Formulas used in calculating the figures contained in the performance analysis of the resting ECG interpretation algorithm are contained in the chart below.

Defined as

Sensitivity

TP
TP+FN

Positive Predictivity

TP
TP+FP

False Positive Rate

FP
TN+FP

Where:

True
Positive =
(TP)

A true positive is called when the arrhythmia algorithm agrees with the positive diagnostic statement made by the physician, i.e., true positive call by the arrhythmia algorithm .

True Negative =(TN)

A true negative is called when the arrhythmia algorithm agrees with the negative diagnostic statement made by the physician, i.e., the condition under question is not called by either the arrhythmia algorithm or the physician.

False Positive =
(FP)

A false positive occurs when the arrhythmia algorithm appends the diagnostic statement to the ECG in question whereas the physician indicates that the condition did not exist, i.e., a false positive call by the arrhythmia algorithm .

False Negative =
(FN)

A false negative occurs when the physician appends the diagnostic statement to the ECG in question whereas the arrhythmia algorithm indicates that the condition did not exist, i.e., a false negative call by the arrhythmia algorithm .
