The
World Leader in ECG Technology |
David W. Mortara, Ph.D. has been a thought leader in the field of electrocardiography for 30 years. Throughout these years, Mortara has made several significant contributions to cardiology.
As head of engineering at what was then Marquette Electronics, Mortara was instrumental in the development of several products. He created the 12SL resting ECG interpretation program, which during his tenure became widely recognized as the leading resting interpretation algorithm. Also while at Marquette, Mortara established the first digital ECG transmission protocol for communication of data between electrocardiographs and a centralized storage system. For over 10 years, Mortara has served as the industry co-chair of the AAMI ECG Committee. The AAMI Committee is responsible for establishing performance standards for cardiac monitors, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors and stress exercise equipment. In 1982, Mortara founded his own company, Mortara Instrument (www.mortara.com). Under his leadership, Mortara Instrument has produced technology advances in both ECG algorithms and 12-lead ECG acquisition. Significant technology firsts for Mortara Instrument include the first 12-lead ST segment monitor, the first 12-lead telemetry transmitter and the first 12-lead Holter recorder. Today the company provides diagnostic ECG solutions worldwide for medical device companies on an OEM basis as well as complete ECG systems for hospitals and physician offices. His company continues to grow under his guidance, driven by the certainty that, "Our technology can make a difference in peoples' lives and we can make a positive impact on the world." |
